It has been forever and a day to update this blog, since I haven’t been as motivated as I could have been. But, this time of year is when I feel inspired. Last year, I decided to embark on my first seasonal café quest since living in Korea, and that started with finding cafes that offer Halloween related treats and drinks. I didn’t ultimately compile a blog post about those cafes, although I did post about them on my Instagram account : instagram.com/rebeccainkorea . However, I did manage to put my post up for Christmas .
Only days left until Halloween day, and as soon as I was able, I made my way to Seoul.

Let’s start with the more abundant franchise or chain coffee shops.

1. First up is dun dun dun, Starbucks! Like last year, Starbucks has released limited time Halloween menu items. Including the “pumpkin black tart (할로윈 펌킨브랙 타르트)“with a picture of a haunted house and a ghost on the top, that was available last year. This year, some other items were added in terms of food, including, the “honey chocolate cake (할로윈 허니 초콜릿 케이크)” that has a tombstone on the top that reads “Spooky Friends”, and Halloween themed macaroons! The macarons or “할로윈 마카롱” are available in four varieties including vanilla (바닐라), blueberry (블루베리) pumpkin (펌킨), as well as mint chocolate (민트 초콜릿.)!

For the drinks, there are three available. There is the “Pumpkin Halloween Tea Latte (펌칸 할로윈 티 라떼“that can be served hot or iced. I personally ordered it in the hot variety. The drink comes with chai syrup, sweet pumpkin sauce, whipped cream (if you choose), chocolate syrup drawn on to resemble a mouth, and googly monster eyes made out of white chocolate. Another drink option is the “Little Witch Halloween Latte (리틀 위치 할로윈 라떼)” either hot or iced. This drink consists of black sesame and matcha flavorings. Black sesame flavored drizzle is on the bottom of the drink, giving it is black or dark color. The whipped cream is matcha flavored and comes topped with a chocolate in the shape of a witch’s hat. Last but not least, is the “Little Watch Halloween Cream Frappuchino (리틀 위치 할로윈 크림 프라푸치노.)” that is comprised of black sesame and match flavors as well as a chocolate witch’s hat.

You can also buy some Halloween themed Starbucks merchandise, consisting of : a “Halloween Chocolate Toffeenut Candy” trick or treat basket in a pumpkin design or a ghost design. You can also purchase tumblers, LED magnets, ceramic mugs and glass cups, a globe demi mug, a double wall glass, keychains, pouches, magnets, and straws.

2. The Venti (더벤티)
The Venti is a take out coffee shop, but locations do tend to have limited seating. The Venti is serving a Halloween themed drink this year called the “Blood Shoux Cream Shake (블러드 슈크림 쉐이:키.)” This drink contains a cream flavored base with strawberry drizzle (acting as the blood), whipped cream, chocolate powder, oreos and a chocolate designed to look like a pumpkin. It’s very sweet and if you’re anything like me, the large size of the drink will prove difficult for you to finish drinking the whole thing. But, it’s good value for the money.

3. Caffe Pascucci (파스쿠찌)
Caffe Pascucci has a Halloween drink this year as well. It’s called the “Ghost Java Granita (고스트 자바 그라니따.) “ This drink is like a frappuchino with gelato on top. It has java chips, mint, and raspberry sauce. The gelato is chocolate. It is topped with a tombstone and a ghost peeking out from behind it.

4. Holly’s Coffee (할리스커피)
In the month of October, Holly’s Coffee is providing the following Halloween items:
프랑켄슈 쿠키 할리치노 (Franken Shoux Cookie Frappuchino). The drink is a sweet custard mixed with crispy chocolate cookies and green tea sauce. It can be topped with a monster or skull shaped chocolate topping.

If you want to eat cake, you can get your fix with the Tiramisu Round (무시무시 티라미수 라운드) your standard tiramisu , or the Blueberry Cheese Round (할로윈 블루베리 치즈 라운드), a blueberry cheesecake, both of which are topped with a piece of chocolate stylized into a full skeleton wearing a crown, or a Frankenstein monster.

The halloween macaroons (할로윈 빅카롱) are available in yuja (유자) and chocolate (초코) flavors. The yuja macaroon is white and has the face of a skeleton on it, while the chocolate macaroon is green has Frankenstein on it.

5. Twosome Place (투썸플레이스)
Garlic can be used in dessert menu items, apparently, and it’s being done at Twosome Place. Their Halloween menu consists of two macaroon flavors including the Halloween Sweet Pumpkin Macaron (할로윈 스윗펌킨 마카롱) and the “Halloween Sweet Garlic Macaron (할로윈 스위트갈릭 마카롱)” The theme of these items are “Hello Playful Halloween.” The sweet pumpkin macaron has the flavors of orange and a sweet pumpkin and cream cheese base. The garlic macaron is reminiscent of garlic bread and is combined with white chocolate.

6. Paik’s Coffee (빽다방)
Have you ever had pop rocks candy as a kid? Well, you can experience that same sensation again as an adult when you drink the “Popping Black Lemon Smoothie (귐묘한스무디)” that contains popping candy (팝핑캔디.)

7. Dore Dore (도레도레)
This place famous for their cake is offering a pumpkin (not spice) cake. It looks super cute and aesthetically pleasing with an outside color of pale orange with orange layers inside. It has pumpkins as decorations on he slices and surprised ghosts on the top. There is also the available option of a pumpkin cake that is covered in “eyeballs” and topped with ghosts.

8. Dinga Cake House (딩가케이크)
This is one of my favorite cafes in Korea. It’s decorated with a 1950s-1970’s? theme and has many vintage pictures of American families and retro items. It’s in a large house, is two floors and has a huge porch and front lawn. Their cake is always delicious as well as their milkshakes and banana splits. 🙂 They regularly make holiday themed sweets. This year their Halloween cake options include a witch chocolate cupcake (머녀초코컵케익) and a Coconut Chocolate Cake (코코넛초콜릿) (with jack o’lantern or ghost toothpicks inserted onto the top. They also have a Halloween Raspberry Pie (라즈베리파이) that looks like an eyeball, and a Halloween Parfait (with a base of almond and chocolate cereal, followed by marshmallow, topped with chocolate mint ice cream, fresh cream, strawberry syrup, and a peanut butter cookie with an “eyeball.”)

9. Tamna Seoul (탐나서울)
If doughnuts are more your style, then Tamna is for you. A quaint doughnut and sweet shop in Mangwon, this establishment has cool vibes with spray painted, graffiti styled walls and loud music. They have various menu items such as douI’mghnuts, cookies and cake. For Halloween, you can buy the jack o’lantern doughnut with a creme brulee and custard cream filling and sugar topping. There is also a ghost doughnut wit green tea cream and a sugar topping and a face person with banana vanilla and nutella or vanilla with strawberry jam. Also available is a mint monster doughnut and halloween cake that can be ordered in advanced and picked up.

10. East Dulwich (이스트 덜위치)
I find this café to be very cute and pleasing to the eye with a very kind manager. Available items include Halloween chocolate mousse cake with various sweet monsters on the top, canelé (in the shapes of jack o’lanterns, ghosts, ghost witches, and bats), meringue cookies that look like pumpkins and ghosts, and drinks with Halloween themed designs on the foam (jack o’lanterns and ghosts.) The interior is also nicely decorated for the season and it puts you in a festive mood.

11. Creamfields 크림필즈 케이크&플라워
Creamfields in Hongdae has super delicious cake and cupcakes. It was the first place I tried in Korea that had sweeter cake that compares to what I am used to back in the United States. Their interior is so cute and the cake is delicious, what more could you want? The Halloween cupcakes this year come in the designs of a skeleton face, monsters, a pumpkin, a candy corn topped cupcake, a purple background with white letters that spell the word “Boo!” and a bloody brain.

12. Mamma Mia! (맘마미아)
This is my favorite cafe. It is bright pick and spacious and has many pieces of artwork and flowers inside. The top floor of a multistory building looks as if it is decorated for a wedding reception with lovely flowers at all times. Their pastries are super delicious at any time of year, but visiting at Halloween time is especially exciting for me. There are various holiday themed items available including a Red Velvet Cake made to look like a purple monster with a strawberry horn, a Gateau ou Chocolate Cake with a cream ghost holding a cherry, a Pumpkin Tarte and a Fudge Brownie topped with a cream ghost holding a pumpkin. It did not disappoint.

13. C. Through (씨스루)
C. Through is known for their latte art that is made upon request when you order your latte. There are a set of standard designs that are made daily. The drink is a latte or you can replace it with vanilla milk. The latte art cream is very sweet and delicious and enhances your drink. Their standard characters are now able to be adorned with Halloween extras, such as bats, scars, witch’s hat, devils horns and fangs. *It is noted on their Instagram page that designs can vary a bit by branch location.

Sweet Hertz contains a variety of cakes, each with designs that cover each individual slice. Every slice is ensured to have a cute character on it. For Halloween, witch puppy with broom cakes and ghost cakes are available.

15. Foamies Coffee (포미스커피)
Foamies has taken their regularly sold cookies and added a Halloween twist to them. The base of the cookies are made out of oreo followed by chocolate, marshmallow, and a bear shaped cookie.

16. Roseberry More (로즈베리모어)
Roseberry More is a cafe that you may have never heard of before, but I first visited it last year and I am hoping to return again this Halloween. Last year, for Halloween, I drank a witch themed latte. It was a latte with a cookie with a witch design on it. This year, different cakes are available from October 28th-October 31st. It is best to order in advance to ensure availability. Options for cake include witch bear lunchbox sized cake, witch bear and ghost cake and a chandelier cake.

17. Conred Coffee (콘레드커피)
Conred Coffee that serves up premium roasted coffee has added a Halloween item to their menu. They are serving a sweet espresso melting caramel drink with a monster marshmallow or ghost marshmallow wearing a pumpkin hat. 🙂

18. Seorae Banjiha (서래 반지하)
Seorae Banjiha is a brunch cafe with a menu that covers so many different kinds of items such as nachos and salsa, chicken karaage, sausage and korean rice cakes, craft beer a and french toast. Their usual cookies look scrumptious. As a Halloween addition to the menu, they are serving lattes with eyeball meringue cookies on top and Halloween sundaes. The sundae is said to taste like a “돼지바” or a pig bar. It’s the individual ice cream bars that we can compare to eclair ice cream bars back home in the west. It has vanilla ice cream, strawberry jam/syrup and pieces of chocolate. Added to that is a skeleton head and an eyeball meringue.

20. Cafe Bonnie (카페 보니)
Cafe Bonnie is a delightful cafe that’s signature sweet treat is a cookie. Many different kinds of cookies can be purchased including Lotus Biscoff cookies, fruit ring cereal cookies, marshmallow cookies and oreo cookies. For this Halloween season, one eyed monsters, two eyed monsters, mummies, ghosts, skeletons, and spider webs (and spider) cookies are being baked. You can even take a baking class! It would be best to send a message by Instagram DM in advance to ensure the cookie you want would be available.

21. Mint Heim (민트하임)
As stated in the title, virtually everything on the menu at Mint Heim is mint flavored. Do you like mint? I do! If you do, it’s got a delicious assortment of cakes, meringues and drinks. I personally enjoy their drinks very much. For Halloween, you can try their “Mint Nutella Cake (민트누텔라케이크),” a cute orange icing flavored cake with ghosts on each slice.

22. Bistopping (비스토핑)
Bistopping is a famous ice cream shop in Seoul that is famous for known for their delicious ice cream and cute and unique cones and cookie toppers. The cones are available in a variety of colors and designs, as well as the cookie toppers. You could get a cookie topper that even says “Korea” on it! This Halloween, they are prepared once again with holiday themed cones and cookies. Available for your ice cream are haunted house cookies, tombstones, ghosts, bats, witches’ brooms, hats and legs and jack o’lanterns. Even in the cold season, it’s fun to eat ice cream, especially themed and holiday edition ice cream.

23. Cafe Odd (오디디)
I have fond memories of the cuteness of Cafe Odd from when I visited last year at Halloween season and how the place was decorated and the yummy cake that was being sold. I have been meaning to visit at another time of year as well, but it’s always at the holidays when I noticed the themed items being sold that I am the most eager to return. Halloween cake this year includes a Harry Potter cake reading “Happee Birthdae,” as well as green icing colored monster cake, cake with writing spelling out “Trick or Treat,” with ghosts on top and an orange colored monster cake.

Witch’s Kitchen (마녀주방)
Did you know that there is even a Halloween themed kitchen that operates all year long? At Witch’s Kitchen, the entire space is decorated with Halloween and spooky items and props. You can drink your drink from an IV bag and choose from a menu with many items that have Halloween elements to them.

Mama Mia might be my favorite cafe in Korea. It is so pretty and lovely! The outside of the cafe is completely pink with large white letters spelling out the cafe’s name. When I saw that they were selling Christmas and winter themed treats this month, I raced to go there. They put up multiple Christmas trees as well as made their own with lights on the first floor as well as the upper floor. Their pastries are so delicious. I wanted to buy and eat everything, but my stomach can only hold so much. ㅠㅠ I also ordered the hot chocolate and it was bomb! It was very rich and contained multiple types of chocolate that complimented each other so well. And I loved the touch of the name written in chocolate and placed as an edible topper. The hot chocolate is a seasonal item.

3. Zapangi (자판기) (Mangwon)

Zapangi seldomly updates their instagram page, but I saw they were selling Christmas themed items and so off I went! I have visited this cafe on multiple occasions, including at Cherry blossom season when they had fun cherry blossom themed items. Most times of the year, they sell tins with cakes in them with mermaid tails on the top. I loveee it. This season, they are selling Santa caked and reindeer cakes. We were lucky enough to get the second-to-last reindeer cake and one Santa cake. The cakes seemed to be the same flavor–light tiramisu. I enjoyed them and the cookie toppers. We also both ordered the seasonal lattes that were a total surprise when they came out. When our drinks and cakes were ready to be picked up, I was so excited. Christmas music playing made me feel so festive.

Cuore Espress was a new cafe find for me. I saw it posted on Instagram and I thought their items for sale looked so cute! This cafe’s “mascot” of sorts is a Shiba Inu dong. They carry this cheesecake slice that they add different designs to according to the season. The Christmas version was too adorable for me to pass up. Sometimes, things that are cute can lack flavor, but I was not disappointed and very pleasantly surprised. I’m normally not a fan of cheesecake, but it was delicious! We also ordered the tree brownie dessert, and I recommend that one as well. I included a picture of antlers and a big red ball /reindeer nose that were on the wall. It seemed that the writing next to the red ball was encouraging patrons to pick up the red nose and pose with it. I love a place that also has props!

Bitstopping is a hit with many foreigners and I am one of them. The place is on the smaller side, but they decorated it well for Christmas. This place is accommodating for foreigners as when we were reading the menu, they asked if we wanted to see an English menu which we gladly received. You should pick your flavor of ice cream, if you want a cup or cone (and the cone options are so fun!) and a cookie(s). They make seasonal cookies and I went there with the purpose of getting something Christmas-y. It was delicious ice cream and the cookies were also good, too!

Viva Salon is a cafe and toy shop that serves animated character inspired drinks. One of their more famous drinks is a Cookie Monster drink. For their winter menu, they are selling Frozen (2) Olaf drinks. It comes by default as a cafe latte, but there are different options that you can choose from, and I changed my drink to be a vanilla latte.

I randomly decided that I missed drinking egg nog, so I quickly searched and found just one place. I also didn’t try very hard… haha. This cafe in Hongdae is selling the cozy holiday drink. It was served hot, which is actually different than what I am used to, but I enjoyed it all the same. If you are in search of a place selling egg nog, check it out. Very close to Hongdae station and they have many pastries to enjoy. I introduced creme brulee to my boyfriend and he enjoyed it. 🙂

I hadn’t visited Cre8 cookies in a long time, but as always they really hit the spot. If you have been craving western style cookies, these are them. They have so many varieties and I have tried multiple. I have enjoyed every cookie that I have ever tried from their shop. Their Christmas cookies are tasty as always.

Carin Lounge has been tempting me with it’s pink interior. It’s my favorite color. 🙂
A lovely place is now even more lovely as they are selling some seasonal items. I ordered the Christmas tree cake. It has a yuja flavor. Despite initially being wary of anything yuja flavored, I took a chance and I am glad I did. It was light and refreshing.

For those who know me personally, I’ve been talking about starting a blog for ages. I use Instagram daily, although I admit I go through periods where I am not the best at posting. However, I wanted a space to write about things more deeply and to experiment using another platform. I have seen a lot of other expat women do this, and so I thought, “Why not me?”
